Terms of Service
Last updated: July 6, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and OCorp Innovations Ltd., doing business as StormIt ("StormIt", "we", "us", or "our"), which operates stormit.ca and related websites, apps, tools, newsletters, accounts, publishing features, AI-assisted writing tools, and other services that link to these Terms (collectively, the "Service").
By accessing or using the Service, creating an account, submitting content, subscribing, or purchasing a paid plan, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who We Are
The Service is operated by:
OCorp Innovations Ltd.
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Email: legal@stormit.ca
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms.
To create, submit, or publish writer content, you must meet the eligibility requirements in our Writer Agreement, including being at least the age of majority in your province, territory, state, or country of residence unless we expressly approve otherwise in writing.
If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.
3. What StormIt Does
StormIt is a lived-experience publishing platform. The Service may let people:
- read articles, guides, essays, and other content;
- create free or paid reader accounts;
- subscribe to newsletters or content updates;
- comment on, save, share, or interact with content;
- apply for or receive writer access;
- create, edit, submit, and publish content;
- use AI-assisted tools for drafting, editing, content planning, image generation, summaries, and workflow support;
- access paid plans or premium features.
We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time.
4. Accounts and Security
You may need an account to use certain features. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it updated.
You are responsible for:
- keeping your login credentials confidential;
- all activity under your account;
- promptly notifying us if you suspect unauthorized access;
- ensuring that any content submitted through your account complies with these Terms.
We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts where we reasonably believe there has been a violation of these Terms, fraud, security risk, misuse, legal risk, or harm to StormIt, users, writers, readers, or third parties.
5. Your Content
"Your Content" means content that you submit, upload, post, publish, generate, save, transmit, or otherwise provide through the Service, including articles, drafts, comments, images, prompts, profile information, messages, notes, and other materials.
You retain ownership of Your Content. We do not claim ownership of Your Content.
You are responsible for Your Content, including ensuring that you have all rights and permissions needed to submit, publish, and licence it.
6. Licence You Grant StormIt
When you submit, upload, post, or publish Your Content through the Service, you grant StormIt a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, edit, format, excerpt, display, publish, publicly perform, distribute, transmit, promote, and otherwise use Your Content as reasonably necessary to:
- operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service;
- display and make published content available to readers;
- format content for different devices, feeds, cards, previews, newsletters, social posts, search results, accessibility, and syndication;
- moderate, review, investigate, and enforce our Terms and policies;
- promote StormIt, the Service, and published content;
- comply with law, legal process, and rights-protection requests.
This licence is non-exclusive, meaning you may use Your Content elsewhere unless a separate signed agreement or program-specific terms say otherwise.
For content you delete or unpublish, the licence ends on a going-forward basis, except that we may retain or continue using copies:
- in backups for a limited period;
- where required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, audit, or compliance purposes;
- where content has already been distributed through newsletters, social media, search results, feeds, emails, screenshots, archival systems, or third-party platforms outside our control;
- where other users have shared, saved, commented on, or interacted with the content;
- where continued use is reasonably necessary to investigate violations or protect rights.
7. Moral Rights and Attribution
To the extent permitted by law, you waive, and agree not to assert, any moral rights or similar rights in Your Content against StormIt and our authorized service providers, licensees, and partners, but only as needed for the uses permitted by these Terms.
This includes formatting, editing for style or length, excerpting, adding preview cards, displaying your name/profile, correcting errors, moderating content, and promoting published content.
We do not use this clause to claim ownership of Your Content or to intentionally distort your work in a way that misrepresents you.
8. AI Tools and AI-Generated Content
The Service may include AI-assisted tools. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, outdated, offensive, or unintentionally similar to existing material.
You are responsible for reviewing, editing, fact-checking, verifying, and deciding whether to use any AI output. You must not publish or rely on AI output without appropriate human review.
You agree not to use AI tools to:
- create or spread misinformation, scams, spam, impersonation, fake reviews, or deceptive content;
- create unlawful, infringing, defamatory, harassing, hateful, exploitative, or harmful material;
- generate deceptive deepfakes or misleading synthetic media;
- violate privacy, publicity, intellectual-property, or other rights;
- present AI-generated content as professionally verified advice unless it has been properly reviewed by a qualified professional.
StormIt does not guarantee that AI output is accurate, original, lawful, suitable, or safe for any particular purpose.
We do not use Your Content or Your AI prompts to train our own models. AI inputs are sent to third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI and Anthropic) under API terms that do not use your inputs to train their models. See our Privacy Policy for details on how AI inputs are handled.
9. Community Content and Conduct
The Service may include public or interactive features, such as comments, profiles, writer pages, article pages, likes, shares, messages, or discussion areas.
You must follow our Community Guidelines and all applicable laws.
You agree not to use the Service to:
- post, generate, upload, or distribute illegal, harmful, hateful, harassing, abusive, defamatory, threatening, exploitative, or discriminatory content;
- infringe copyright, trademark, moral rights, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, or other rights;
- post private or sensitive information about others without permission;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, affiliation, credentials, or expertise;
- publish false, misleading, deceptive, or manipulated content;
- generate spam, phishing, malware, scams, unauthorized advertising, or mass messaging;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service;
- scrape, crawl, harvest, or extract data without permission;
- bypass access controls, rate limits, paywalls, security measures, or content restrictions;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, model weights, prompts, system instructions, algorithms, or non-public features;
- share, sell, transfer, or sublicense your account or paid access;
- use the Service to violate any applicable law or third-party terms.
10. Moderation and Enforcement
We may, but are not required to, review, edit, label, fact-check, moderate, restrict, remove, unpublish, demonetise, downrank, disable access to, or refuse to publish content for any lawful reason, including where we believe content:
- violates these Terms or our policies;
- creates legal, safety, reputational, or operational risk;
- may infringe rights;
- may be inaccurate, misleading, harmful, or inappropriate;
- does not meet our editorial standards.
We may also suspend or terminate accounts, revoke writer access, restrict features, or take other action to protect StormIt, users, readers, writers, third parties, or the Service.
We are not responsible for user-generated content, writer content, comments, or third-party content posted through or linked from the Service.
11. Professional-Advice Disclaimer
StormIt publishes general information, including lived-experience writing and practical guides on topics such as health, mental health, finances, taxes, immigration, housing, employment, business, and law.
Content on the Service is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not medical, mental-health, legal, financial, investment, tax, accounting, immigration, housing, employment, or other professional advice. It does not create a doctor-patient, therapist-client, lawyer-client, advisor-client, fiduciary, or other professional relationship.
You should consult a qualified professional who knows your situation before making decisions. If you are experiencing a medical emergency or mental-health crisis, call your local emergency number or a crisis service immediately.
Your use of or reliance on content is at your own risk.
12. Subscriptions, Paid Plans, Billing, and Cancellation
StormIt may offer free and paid plans, including reader plans, writer plans, premium features, subscriptions, or other paid services.
Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment processor, currently Stripe, unless otherwise stated at checkout. Prices are shown at checkout and may be listed in Canadian dollars (CAD) unless otherwise specified. Applicable taxes, including GST/HST/PST/QST or other taxes, may be added where required.
Auto-renewal
Unless stated otherwise at checkout, subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period until cancelled. By purchasing a subscription, you authorize StormIt and our payment processor to charge your payment method for recurring fees, taxes, and applicable charges.
Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription through your account settings or any other cancellation method we make available. Cancellation stops future renewals. Unless required by law or stated otherwise, you will continue to have access until the end of your current paid billing period.
Refunds
Except where required by applicable law or expressly stated by us, fees are non-refundable and we do not provide refunds, credits, or prorated refunds for partial billing periods, unused features, account inactivity, or content removal.
Price or plan changes
We may change plan features, prices, billing periods, or paid features. For material changes to active subscriptions, we will provide reasonable notice where required. Changes generally apply at your next renewal unless otherwise stated or required by law.
Failed payments
If payment fails, we may retry the charge, suspend or downgrade paid features, cancel your subscription, or restrict access until payment succeeds.
Free trials and promotions
If we offer free trials, discounts, coupons, or promotions, additional terms may apply. Unless stated otherwise, promotional offers may be limited, modified, or withdrawn at any time.
13. Writers and Monetisation
Writing and publishing on StormIt is approval-based and subject to our Writer Agreement, Community Guidelines, editorial standards, and any program-specific terms.
Unless a separate written agreement or published paid-writer program says otherwise, submitting, writing, editing, or publishing content on StormIt does not entitle you to payment.
If we offer paid writer programs, revenue sharing, bonuses, bounties, tips, sponsorships, or other monetisation, the applicable eligibility, calculation, tax, reporting, payout, and withholding rules will be set out separately and will form part of these Terms.
14. Intellectual Property in the Service
The Service, including the StormIt name, logo, branding, design, interface, software, code, workflows, templates, prompts, editorial materials, databases, compilations, and non-user content, is owned by StormIt or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property and other laws.
Except for rights expressly granted in these Terms, we grant you no rights in the Service.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the Service except as permitted by these Terms or applicable law.
Feedback
If you choose to send us feedback, ideas, suggestions, feature requests, or recommendations about the Service ("Feedback"), you grant StormIt a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, implement, and otherwise act on that Feedback for any purpose, without restriction and without any obligation or compensation to you. You are never required to provide Feedback.
15. Copyright Complaints
We respect intellectual-property rights. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, follow our Copyright / DMCA / Notice-and-Takedown Policy.
We may remove or disable access to content alleged to infringe copyright and may suspend or terminate repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
16. Third-Party Services and Links
The Service may rely on or link to third-party services, platforms, tools, websites, payment processors, analytics providers, AI providers, hosting providers, email providers, social networks, and other resources.
We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, products, services, policies, security, availability, accuracy, or practices. Your use of third-party services may be governed by their own terms and policies.
17. Privacy
Our collection, use, disclosure, and protection of personal information are described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you acknowledge our Privacy Policy.
18. Service Availability and Changes
We strive to provide a useful and reliable Service, but we do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, accurate, available, or compatible with all devices or systems.
We may modify, suspend, discontinue, limit, or remove any part of the Service at any time, including free or paid features, content, tools, plans, or availability.
19. Beta and Experimental Features
Some features may be beta, experimental, preview, or early-access features. They may be unstable, incomplete, changed, limited, or discontinued at any time. They are provided "as is" and may be subject to additional terms.
20. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service and all content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise.
StormIt disclaims all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, security, and error-free operation.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some exclusions may not apply to you.
21. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, StormIt and its directors, officers, employees, contractors, agents, affiliates, suppliers, licensors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or enhanced damages, or for loss of data, revenue, profits, goodwill, reputation, business opportunities, or other intangible losses, arising from or related to:
- your access to or use of the Service;
- your inability to access or use the Service;
- content, AI output, or third-party content;
- unauthorized access, security incidents, or data loss;
- account suspension, termination, content removal, or moderation decisions;
- any other matter relating to the Service.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, StormIt's total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of:
- the amount you paid StormIt for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim; or
- CAD $100.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
22. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless StormIt and its directors, officers, employees, contractors, agents, affiliates, suppliers, licensors, and service providers from and against claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from or related to:
- Your Content;
- your use or misuse of the Service;
- your violation of these Terms or our policies;
- your violation of applicable law;
- your violation or alleged violation of any third-party rights;
- your fraud, negligence, wilful misconduct, or misrepresentation.
We may control the defence of any matter subject to indemnification, and you agree to cooperate with us.
23. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. You may delete your account through settings or by contacting us if account deletion is not available.
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Service, account, paid features, writer access, or content at any time if we reasonably believe:
- you violated these Terms or our policies;
- your account creates legal, safety, security, operational, or reputational risk;
- your use harms StormIt, users, writers, readers, third parties, or the Service;
- we are required to do so by law, legal process, or payment-provider requirements;
- your account has been inactive for an extended period.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. We will handle account data according to our Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including sections on Your Content, licences, AI responsibility, professional-advice disclaimer, intellectual property, copyright complaints, warranty disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, disputes, and general terms.
24. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
Subject to any non-waivable consumer rights you may have in your place of residence, you and StormIt agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in British Columbia, Canada, for disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights or remedies you may have under mandatory consumer-protection laws.
25. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms and update the "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will provide reasonable notice where required.
Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service.
26. General Terms
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Community Guidelines, Copyright / DMCA / Notice-and-Takedown Policy, Writer Agreement, and any plan-specific or program-specific terms, form the entire agreement between you and StormIt regarding the Service.
If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, sale of assets, or transfer of the Service.
Neither party is liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control.
