Community Guidelines
Last updated: June 22, 2026
StormIt is a place for honest, lived-experience writing. These Guidelines apply to everything you post — articles, comments, profiles, and uploads — and are part of our Terms of Service. The short version: be truthful, be kind, and don't harm others.
What we encourage
- Real experience, useful guidance, and good-faith discussion.
- Citing sources for factual claims, especially on health, money, and legal topics.
- Disagreeing with ideas while respecting people.
- Disclosing conflicts of interest and any paid or sponsored relationships.
What's not allowed
- Illegal content or content that promotes illegal acts.
- Harassment, hate, or threats — attacks or slurs based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other protected characteristics; bullying; or incitement of violence.
- Sexual content involving minors, and non-consensual or sexually exploitative content of any kind. (We report child sexual abuse material to the authorities.)
- Self-harm content that encourages or instructs suicide, self-injury, or eating disorders. (Lived-experience writing about recovery is welcome, handled with care.)
- Dangerous misinformation — false claims that could cause real-world harm, including medical, financial, or civic/voting misinformation.
- Privacy violations— posting someone's private or identifying information (doxxing) without consent.
- Infringement — content that infringes copyright, trademark, or other rights (see our Copyright / DMCA Policy), or plagiarism.
- Spam, scams, and deception — spam, manipulative SEO, affiliate/link farms, impersonation, fake engagement, or undisclosed AI-generated content passed off as first-hand experience.
- Malware and abuse — malicious code, or attempts to disrupt, overload, or game the platform.
A note on AI and accuracy
You may use StormIt's AI tools to help you write, but you are responsible for what you publish. Fact-check it, make it your own, and don't present fabricated experiences as real. Content on sensitive topics (health, mental health, finance, legal, immigration) is general information, not professional advice — see our Terms.
Reporting & moderation
If you see content that breaks these Guidelines, report it to legal@stormit.ca. We review reports and may, at our discretion, remove or restrict content, add labels or context, limit features, or suspend or terminate accounts. We try to be fair and proportionate, and we may consider context, intent, and severity. Serious or repeated violations can result in a permanent ban, and we may preserve and disclose information where required by law or to protect people from harm.
Appeals
If you believe we made a mistake, reply to the notice you received or contact legal@stormit.ca and we will take another look.
Changes
We may update these Guidelines as the community grows. We will post changes here and update the date above.
