Writer Agreement

Last updated: June 22, 2026

This Writer Agreement applies to writers and contributors who create and publish content on StormIt ("you"). It supplements, and is part of, our Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and Privacy Policy. If there is a conflict, a separate signed agreement or program-specific terms with StormIt control over this page.

1. Eligibility & approval

Writing on StormIt is invite-/approval-based. We may approve, decline, pause, or revoke writer access at our discretion. You must be at least the age of majority in your province or territory.

2. Your content & ownership

You own the content you create("Your Content"). This Agreement does not transfer ownership to us.

3. License to publish & promote

When you submit or publish Your Content on StormIt, you grant StormIt a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, edit and format (e.g. for length, style, and preview cards), publish, publicly display, distribute, and promote Your Content in connection with StormIt and its marketing (including social media, the newsletter, search, and syndication partners). The license is non-exclusive — you remain free to publish your work elsewhere unless a separate written agreement says otherwise. The license continues for content that remains published; if you unpublish or delete content or your account, the license ends on a going-forward basis, except for (a) copies cached, indexed, or re-shared by third parties beyond our control, (b) content already included in the newsletter or other distributed materials, and (c) limited backups.

4. Your representations

You represent and warrant that, for everything you publish:

5. Editorial control

We may review, copy-edit, fact-check, add context or labels to, decline, schedule, unpublish, or remove submissions, and we may decline to publish for any lawful reason. We are not obligated to publish or to keep any content published. Attribution is generally provided to the author, in the form shown on your profile, unless you request otherwise or a separate agreement provides differently.

6. Payment & monetization

Unless a separate written agreement or a published program says otherwise, contributing to StormIt does not entitle you to payment. If we offer a paid writer program, revenue share, tips, or bounties, the specific eligibility, calculation, minimum thresholds, payout schedule, method, and conditions will be set out in that program's terms and form part of this Agreement. [Insert paid-writer / revenue-share terms here if/when you offer them — including how earnings are calculated and paid.]

You are responsible for your own taxes on any amounts you earn. You agree to provide any tax or payment information we reasonably require (e.g. for tax reporting or to process payouts), and payouts may be withheld until you do.

7. Independent relationship

You participate as an independent creator, not an employee, partner, or agent of StormIt. Nothing here creates an employment or joint-venture relationship, and you are responsible for your own expenses and obligations.

8. Confidentiality & non-public tools

If we give you access to non-public features, drafts, analytics, or information, you agree to keep them confidential and use them only to create and manage your StormIt content.

9. Takedown & complaints

We respond to valid intellectual-property complaints under our Copyright / DMCA Policy and may remove content accordingly. You will cooperate with reasonable requests relating to legal complaints about Your Content.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StormIt and its officers, employees, and suppliers from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content or your breach of this Agreement, the Terms, or the rights of any third party.

11. Term & termination

This Agreement applies for as long as you have writer access. Either party may end the relationship at any time. We may suspend or terminate your writer access for violations of this Agreement, the Terms, or the Guidelines. Sections that by their nature should survive (including 2–4, 9–10) survive termination.

12. General

This Agreement is governed by the same law and dispute terms as our Terms of Service. Questions? Contact legal@stormit.ca.
